Author :-
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882)– was one of the most famous American poets of his day. Longfellow is well known for his lyric poems, noted for their musicality. His first major poetry collections were Voices of the Night (1839) and Ballads and Other Poems (1841). The present text is a part of Longfellow’s poem of the same name.
বঙ্গানুবাদ :-
হেনরি ওয়্যাডসওয়ার্থ লংফেলো (১৮০৭-১৮৮২) ছিলেন তাঁর সময়কার সবচেয়ে বিখ্যাত আমেরিকান কবিদের মধ্যে অন্যতম। লংফেলো তাঁর বিখ্যাত সংগীতধর্মী গীতিকবিতাগুলির জন্য সুপরিচিত। তাঁর প্রথম প্রধান কাব্য সংগ্রহগুলি ছিল ‘ভয়েসেস্ অব্ দ্য নাইট’ (১৮৩৯) এবং ব্যালাস্ অ্যান্ড আদার পোয়েন্স’ (১৮৪১)। বর্তমান পাঠ্যাংশটি হল ওই একই নামে লংফেলোর একটি কবিতার অংশবিশেষ।

যখন ওই উয় সূর্য, যা নিয়ে আসে
বীজ বোনা আর ফসল কাটার সময়, আবার ফিরে আসে,
তখন শান্ত বন দেখতে যাওয়া কী সুন্দর, যেখানে হঠাৎ ফুটে ওঠে
সমভূমির প্রথম ফুল।
I love the season well
When forest glades are teeming with bright forms,
Nor dark and many-folded clouds foretell
The coming-on of storms.
আমি ঋতুটিকে খুবই ভালোবাসি,
যখন জঙ্গলের ঘাসজমিগুলি পরিপূর্ণ বিভিন্ন উজ্জ্বল আকৃতিতে,
যখন বহুস্তরীয় কালো মেঘ ভবিষ্যদ্বাণী করে না
ঝড়ের আগমনের।
From the earth’s loosened mould
The sapling draws its sustenance, and thrives
Though stricken to the heart with winter’s cold,
The drooping tree revives.
পৃথিবীর নরম উর্বরা জমি থেকে
চারাগাছ তার প্রাণরস টেনে নেয়, এবং তরতর করে বেড়ে ওঠে;
শীতের ঠান্ডায় বুকে আঘাত পেয়েও,
ঝুঁকে পড়া গাছ নতুন করে জেগে ওঠে।
The softly-warbled song
Comes from the pleasant woods, and coloured wings
Glance quick in the bright sun, that moves along

নরম মিষ্টি সুরে সামান্য গলা কাঁপিয়ে গান
ভেসে আসে সুন্দর বন থেকে, এবং রঙিন ডানাগুলি
ঝলকে দেখা দেয় উজ্জ্বল রোদে, যা এগিয়ে চলে
জঙ্গলের ফাঁকা জায়গাগুলো দিয়ে।

আর বিস্তীর্ণ উঁচু জমি উদ্ভাসিত হয়ে ওঠে।
